Well, once again, an awards show has come and gone and I've proven that I cannot predict the winners. I have to admit though, if I sneaked a second ballot, I would have done much better. Oh well. So out of 24 categories, I only got 5 right. Yikes, a measly 21%. I feel as though I should apologize to the nominees, because if I pick you to win - you probably won't. Sorry 'bout that.

The categories I guessed correctly were:
Best Animated Feature
Achievement in Art Direction
Achievement in Film Editing
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Original Screenplay

My "80th annual Academy Awards" (Oscars) picks!

Well the 80th Annual Academy Awards is almost here. They are happening this Sunday and I am looking forward to see who will come out on top.

My Disclaimer: I have not seen every single film nominated, these are just my predictions on what I think will happen. Guesses could be inaccurate due to the fact that I have not seen each of the films, and also since I can't vote, others may not agree with me.

Results for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards

The nominations have been cast for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards. As per previous posts for other award shows, I will try my hand at predicting the winners. My vote may lean towards who I want to win rather then who I think may win, but it's all in good fun.

Well another year in cinema has come full circle with the Academy Awards tonight. As in a previous post I listed my picks on who the winners of the Oscar's would be. It seems that I have done a little better than some of the other award shows. Out of 24 categories I got 11 correct, 46%. Yay!

Joe Arroyo - Fruko y sus Tesos

So my buddy Roberto called me up on Friday with this extra ticket to a Fruko y sus Tesos concert. It's led by this guy Joe Arroyo who apparently is a pioneer in the salsa and samba world. I figured 'what the heck', free concert, a little culture -- how bad can it be? Well, the music wasn't bad at all, in fact it was quite good. But, everyone (on and off stage) was talking in spanish. 4 hours of not knowing what was being said. Oh well, the concert was good anyways.

And I bought this spanish instructional cd set this weekend. Maybe I'll learn something.

Anyways, thanks for the culture Roberto...

I love the Golden Schmoes because the people get to speak. It's an online voting event where I can speak my mind in helping to choose the winners. Unfortunately, I was only listened to 38% of the time. So, so sad.

I am very happy to say that The Departed got 6 wins. Very good movie. I bought the Best Buy Exclusive set this weekend (comes with the screenplay).

For those of you who don't know what The Golden Schmoes are, it's a set of awards (online) that is given by the public through JoBlo.com. JoBlo.com is a website dedicated to providing information about the wonderful world of Movies.

Top picks for movies in 2006

I love to watch movies, who doesn't? Unfortuantely I only get to watch a small subset of all that are released in a given year. I suppose it'd be pretty great to be a film critic or somebody that just gets to watch a lot of movies. Anyways, in case you also haven't seen a lot of movies, or at least the ones I have, I'm providing some of my top picks for movies in 2006.

Note: Even throughout 2007, I'll probably see a lot more of the 2006 movies as they start appearing on shelves across the nation. So I'll update this list as well.

The accuracy of my 2007 Screen Actor Guild award picks

Hmm, okay. So out of 13 picks for the nominees of the 2007 Screen Actor Guild awards, how many did I get correct?
Well it aired tonight, so I have the final tally. I got 2 / 13 correct. Not a very impressive number, I might confess, however I have seen more of the films and shows since my initial predictions and do confess they definitely deserved to win. Oh well, until the next one...

The 79th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars)

Well, the moment everyone in the movie industry has been waiting for. The nominations were announced this morning for the 79th Annual Academy Awards.

Similar to other posts here, I will list out the nominations and predict the winner (my choice in bold).

And, if I may, what possible reason could Mark Wahlberg have for getting a nomination where Jack Nicholson did not? I don't get that. Jack was fantastic in The Departed, he got robbed. And Click getting a nomination in makeup? I'm sorry, but Click isn't Oscar worthy.

Oh, the razzies. Gotta love'em. An award for "bad"ness. Well, as from earlier posts, you know the drill. I'm going to predict the winners (or are they really losers, in this case?) and see how accurate I am.

My pics will be in bold. My disclaimer: I haven't seen all the films (pretty hard to do that if you're not a critic), but I will do my best in predicting anyways.

The accuracy of my 2007 Golden Globes picks

Hmm, okay. So out of 25 picks for the nominees of the 2007 Golden Globe awards, how many did I get correct?
Well it aired tonight, so I have the final tally.

I got 3 / 25 correct. What? I couldn't belive it. I figured for sure Leo would win for either Blood Diamond or The Departed. He got seriously robbed. I was very happyg about Martin Scorsese, although Clint Eastwood had great chances too. What was with Alec Baldwin winning for 30 Rock? I was seriously rooting for Steve Carell (or Zack Braff). And Hugh Laurie? I was rooting for Jack Bauer, um, I mean Kiefer Sutherland. Although his speech was very comedic. Let's try him out in a comedy role, shall we?

Anyways, here are the ones I got right:

Best Director - Motion Picture
Best Performance By An Actress In A Mini-series Or Motion Picture Made For Television

Should I even bother with the Oscars? Well, why not.
