Results of my pics for the 80th Annual Academy Awards

Well, once again, an awards show has come and gone and I've proven that I cannot predict the winners. I have to admit though, if I sneaked a second ballot, I would have done much better. Oh well. So out of 24 categories, I only got 5 right. Yikes, a measly 21%. I feel as though I should apologize to the nominees, because if I pick you to win - you probably won't. Sorry 'bout that.

The categories I guessed correctly were:
Best Animated Feature
Achievement in Art Direction
Achievement in Film Editing
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Original Screenplay

My "80th annual Academy Awards" (Oscars) picks!

Well the 80th Annual Academy Awards is almost here. They are happening this Sunday and I am looking forward to see who will come out on top.

My Disclaimer: I have not seen every single film nominated, these are just my predictions on what I think will happen. Guesses could be inaccurate due to the fact that I have not seen each of the films, and also since I can't vote, others may not agree with me.

Results for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards

The nominations have been cast for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards. As per previous posts for other award shows, I will try my hand at predicting the winners. My vote may lean towards who I want to win rather then who I think may win, but it's all in good fun.

Two more free books...

It seems as though I'm getting lucky with free books. I just won two more from Free Software Magazine. I love this site. It's got a lot of great articles, and free books are definitely a bonus. The two I won are titled Practical Subversion (from Apress), and Pro Open Source Mail: Building an Enterprise Mail Solution (also from Apress).

I'm really looking forward to reading through these books, especially the Subversion one as the Open Source Mail one wouldn't apply to me for quite some time.

I came across this page today about some actual questions from Microsoft Interviews. I haven't read them all yet, just browsed through them. I cam across the question:

If you could gather all of the computer manufacturers in the world together into one room and then tell them one thing that they would be compelled to do, what would it be?

and wondered what would happen if my answer was: Provide an option to pre-install Linux.

Well another year in cinema has come full circle with the Academy Awards tonight. As in a previous post I listed my picks on who the winners of the Oscar's would be. It seems that I have done a little better than some of the other award shows. Out of 24 categories I got 11 correct, 46%. Yay!

Joe Arroyo - Fruko y sus Tesos

So my buddy Roberto called me up on Friday with this extra ticket to a Fruko y sus Tesos concert. It's led by this guy Joe Arroyo who apparently is a pioneer in the salsa and samba world. I figured 'what the heck', free concert, a little culture -- how bad can it be? Well, the music wasn't bad at all, in fact it was quite good. But, everyone (on and off stage) was talking in spanish. 4 hours of not knowing what was being said. Oh well, the concert was good anyways.

And I bought this spanish instructional cd set this weekend. Maybe I'll learn something.

Anyways, thanks for the culture Roberto...
